Dimensionally stable purlins - profiles for lightweight metal construction

Our optimised lightweight profiles offer numerous advantages in practice

As a family-run company, we have a solid corporate foundation. Our independence is a defining constant that radiates to all divisions of the SCHRAG Group. On this basis, we prepare the ground for a trusting relationship to develop between customers, suppliers and employees. A unique combination of comprehensive expertise and consistent action enables the high level of satisfaction that we enjoy with our customers.

We are quality- and solution-orientated and have retained the courage to think ahead. We are characterised by openness in our relationships with our partners and customers. Safety is our overriding concern, to which we subordinate our thoughts and actions. Competence, flexibility and customer satisfaction are important benchmarks alongside our understanding of quality, which are expressed through a well-organised operation with reliable processes and modern machinery.

Simple design, low dead weight and high load capacity

This basic understanding has made us the leading specialist for customised edge profile solutions in lightweight metal construction. Our lightweight profiles made of thin-walled, cold-formed and galvanised sheet steel have an important function in modern industrial and commercial construction. Our purlins make it possible to construct roof substructures with all the necessary requirements easily, quickly and safely. We have optimised our purlins so that they achieve high load-bearing capacities with a simple design and low dead weight.

Single-span or coupled carrier systems

Basically, purlins serve as substructures for the installation of the actual roof covering. The simple geometry of the roof purlins makes them easier to work with in practice, because: Purlin shoes for fastening can consist of angle profiles for screwing on. Alternatively, steel fabricators can also work independently and weld flat steel vertically directly onto the substructures. This offers advantages over other additionally beaded geometries. In terms of installation options, purlins can be installed as single-span or coupled girder systems.

Single-span purlins are extremely economical solutions in lightweight metal construction. They are suitable for buildings with few truss bays and/or low loads. Purlin shoes can be used for suspended installation above the trusses or between the trusses.

Bending-resistant connections of the purlins

In contrast, coupling purlins are the assembly system of choice for buildings with many girder bays, large spans and higher loads. In contrast to single-span purlins, the profiles are mounted alternately in bays with a wide or narrow flange at the top. Such coupling purlins create rigid connections between the purlins and the girders. The assembly system theoretically allows continuous beams of unlimited length.

Weight saving through intelligent assembly

The weight of the continuous beams can be reduced by using the coupling purlin assembly system. For this purpose, purlins with smaller material thicknesses are used in the inner bays compared to the end bays. However, the continuous beam effect of the coupling system for the main supporting structure must always be taken into account and the structural engineer must be consulted.
