Rooflights - daylight and plenty of fresh air

Skylight domes and continuous rooflights provide protection from smoke and heat in the event of a fire

Rooflights, continuous rooflights or skylight domes - daylight systems are all the rage when it comes to commercial or industrial buildings with flat roofs. No wonder, because: Naturally lit rooms, a clear view of the sky and a balanced indoor climate are important cornerstones with which modern daylight systems know how to score points.

Rooflights such as continuous rooflights or skylight domes consistently utilise the available light and thus reduce the need for artificial light. Added to this is the effectiveness of the natural light source: After all, daylight that streams into rooms from above is up to five times brighter than light that enters via classic building openings on the side.

Rooflights utilise thermal buoyancy for air exchange

Rooflights and skylight domes have important functions in regulating the room temperature. With this in mind, the thermal lift generated by skylights is utilised for air exchange. One of the advantages of this solution is the fact that, unlike mechanical solutions, these air-regulating daylight systems do not require an energy supply. Another important aspect that contributes to the attractiveness of skylights is the positive effect they have on fires.

In the event of a fire, skylight domes and continuous rooflights channel smoke and toxic gases to the outside and, in conjunction with sufficient air inlets, ensure a low-smoke layer. They increase the chances of self-rescue or rescue by others and can support rescue operations by the fire brigade. Effective heat dissipation with the aid of skylights also reduces the risk of buildings collapsing in the event of a fire.

SCHRAG substructures offer safety

Our high-quality frames provide skylights such as arcade rooflights or skylight domes with a stable substructure. They fulfil the necessary functional requirements in industrial construction and benefit from our decades of expertise. With intelligent complete solutions, we offer our customers systems that have been optimised for installation thanks to precise preliminary work.

Individual demands and requirements, together with our many years of experience, are incorporated into the optimisation of our continuous rooflight frames. On request, our colleagues at SCHRAG|Engineering Services will be happy to take care of the basics such as preliminary structural calculations or verifiable verifications. In detail, our substructures for skylights are characterised by the following parameters:

  • Fully machined frames: perforated, notched or mitred
  • Complete accessories: corner brackets, connecting brackets, tension, compression or diagonal struts (as U-profile or tube) and fixing material
  • Production lengths up to 12,500 mm
  • Material thicknesses from 1.50-4.00 mm
  • CE marking
  • Structural steel S320GD in accordance with EN 10346
    • Galvanised Z/ZM
    • galvanised/coated Z/ZM plus 25 µm/RSL
  • RAL 9002
  • RAL 9010

We are happy to offer you other materials on request.
