Steel

Steel

Steel is a hot and cold formable material made from iron to which carbon (<2.06%) has been added. However, there are often other alloy components such as chromium or nickel, which give the steel its characteristic properties. Phosphorus, sulphur or nitrogen are considered rather undesirable accompanying components.
In addition to the addition of alloy components, the properties of steel can also be influenced by heat treatment.
Steel is the most commonly used metallic material and is divided into two main quality classes in accordance with DIN EN 10020: Quality steel and stainless steel.
